Tuarninn "Longhand" Qyul-Morai (623 MR)

[[Character Sheet]]

Tuarninn was born to a small offshoot of the Qyul-Isha, attendants to Queen Llaedra (from the elven kingdom of Luabraight) in matters mystical. Under the close scrutiny of such gifted mages, it was divined that he bore strongly the mark of the Feywild dark mirror, the Shadowfell, with a pair of unnaturally large ravens taking a keen interest in the young babe from the moment he was born. Throughout his first years, strange and unusual pallor, a hang towards darkness, strange mishaps in his surroundings and his jet-black hair slowly getting crossed with a spiderweb of white hair confirmed the worries of the family.

As Tuarninn was brought to hunt his first elk, the arrow shot by the youth startled the animal, leading directly to the death of Tuarninn's older brother Asurninn. Their parents blamed themselves first and foremost and began the motions to ensure the unlucky child could be removed from their family before  more damage could be done.

First, Tuarninn was fostered to a small troupe of wardancers, hoping that their discipline could remove the doubtful blessings that the Shadowfell laid upon tuarninn, but even Valgaci Swiftspear, the shadowdancer that lead the troupe, found it hard to do anything but imprint a sense of self-worth in the youth. Tuarninn grew close with him though and when time came for the troupe take on duties near the Oak of Ages, they went their seperate ways.

Upon the advise of Valgaci, Tuarninn travelled north to Challra, from where a ship was found that he set out towards the Krakennauricht with. Being out on the water suited the young elf, whose nocturnal hang made him an easy night-watch for the vessels he was allowed to serve on.

However, it would not take long before ill luck befell the vessels he attended on, and within a fortnight of employ, each of the five vessels he worked on ran aground or were beset by goblinoids while at port.

Taking the clue the Dark Powers of the Shadowfell were apparently giving him, Tuarninn set up a camp and became a scavenger of wrecks on the river Teufel, in the realm of Muden, as that was where his last ship had run into a sandbank.

And there he stayed, year in, year out, until the loneliness of the wilderness became too much and he hungers for those who can provide more than just silence during the cold winter nights.

Given that he seeks not to endanger other elves with his presence, the short-lived humans make the most likely friends for Tuarninn. Their doom hangs over them as well, making them feel relateable.

Tuarninn still stays in contact with a pair of elves, but worries he would bring ill luck to them if he were to go near them:

Eytrae - a mage from the Glamourweave Kindred serving in what was once  Llaedra's court, the last of his relatives that still believes in a positive destiny for Tuarninn.

Valgaci - the wardancer who would call Tuarninn a friend.

Feature-wise, the pale Tuarninn still holds his curse in high regard, so he has feathers from ravens on him at all times and favours dark, unremarkable clothes to the gaudy ones some Brecht merchants favour, though he started balancing out her trappings with those of the Wardencers, including a small white mask, after his time with the mystic warrior.

  1. Humans live side by side with death. So I must become death to come closer to them.
