Session 9 (100 xp)

PCs: Tuarninn, Udo, Ulrich

(The duel between Flynn and Pierre will be played as a flashback in a following session)

MR 673 - Talienir

The PCs are all called to a special assembly with Captain Pfeffer and Sergeant Klumpenklug along with a large number of other members of the Watch. Captain Pfeffer publicly presents Sergeant Klumpenklug with a medal and a purse of silver shillings for his ‘swift and daring actions in defence of Ubersreik’. The ‘actions’ mentioned are the highlights of all the PCs have done in the last few weeks. The party seem to take this pretty well, no hard feelings.

A couple of days later, the party is approached by Ilse Fassenwütend, a road sergeant with a job for them. She wants them to help her bring a dangerous prisoner held in one of the Watchstations in Ubersreik to the executioner's block in Morr's Fields, in two days time. The man, Holger Maurer, is accused of multiple murders, and of being a chaos worshipper. The prisoner has already avoided execution twice, and if he somehow manages to avoid it a third time, by Imperial Law he will be a free man. If the PCs accept to help her, she will have their conscription sentence cancelled, and they will be free to either stay in the Watch, or leave as they please. The party accepts.

The day after, Tuarninn visits Morr's Fields and Father Burke, asking for advise on how to better defend the party from magic and chaos, fearing that Holger's impossible "luck" is actually a spell of sorts. Ulrich visits Holger's girlfriend, a young woman working in the Markplatz. The woman claims that Holger is innocent, and he only killed in self-defense. She also mentions Holger's special "gift", an uncanny ability of identifying the flaws in everything and everyone he sets his unblinking gaze upon. Udo visits the groves out of town, next to the river, to eventually rent a row boat to transport the prisoner by an alternative route.

In the afternoon, the party convenes to share whatever they've learned, and fine tune their plan of action. After lunch, Ulrich decides to pay a visit to Maurer himself.
